Raising Awareness of Sexual Assault on College Campuses
Sexual assault is a topic that is often swept under the rug. Even cases on various colleges are treated as though they don't exist. One of the ways to help end the problem is talk to about it, and educate others on the issue. My project was to go to various classes and give a presentation on sexual violence, and topics surrounding it. I not only gave the definition of consent, but I provided the classes with facts, cases, videos, and statistics so that they truly understand how serious sexual assault truly is. I gave statements victims often heard when reporting their assault, as well as the lack of concern that law enforcement, and colleges often show victims. I not only gave the students options of what they can do, but i also gave various anonymous personal accounts of sexual assault as well. Overall, not only did I receive positive feedback, but because this is my passion I have started a proposal to implement women's program in the core curriculum. To not only educate others on this topic, but to promote the equality of women as well.
She was Powerful
But not because she wasn't scared
but because she went on so strongly,
despite the fear.

My Project Proposal

It is estimated that only 5% of sexual assaults on college campuses are reported, making sexual assault the most underreported crime

Rape survivors are 13 times more likely to attempt suicide than are people who have not been victims of a crime.

According to a report based on FBI data, almost 70% of sexual assault reported to law enforcement occurred in the residence of the victim, the offender, or another individual.
