Internship at
Camp Albrecht Acres
PROJECTS
Fireworks Spectacular and Duck Race
My first task at hand was to advertise Camp Albrecht Acres Firework and Duck Race fundraiser. This event was held on campgrounds with all the proceeds going to helping our campers afford camp. It was my job to reach out to several radio stations, local Dubuque community calender's, and to other various online outlets to advertise our event. I also reached out to several donors before hand to see if they were willing to donate to our organization with their donation going to the cost of food, fireworks, and prizes. Not only did I create the script to say to donors, but I also was in contact with several various businesses and profound members of the Dubuque community while representing our organization.

Event Planning
Another project I spearheaded for the camp was planning an evening activity for our campers. I had an idea to create a talent show! I set up a "red carpet" in the gym and held a talent show that soon lead to karaoke night. Each camper had the chance to pick their song they wanted to sing and once they were finished they were given a trophy. I set up the entire gym by myself, set up all the necessary equipment, and was the host of the show. The campers had the chance to dress up before they performed, and the event was such a hit even some counselors went up on stage and sang. This event was a huge success, and I loved planning a fun, interactive activity that got every camper involved regardless of their mental or physical state.
"Intern Work"
As most interns, I was the head "copier" for a week. I not only was in charge of copying and filing new applications for campers, but I also wrote thank you letters to donors and came up with the script for each card. I did various office duties throughout this internship, and was offered a job this fall semester to help Albrecht Acres with fundraising.
Counselor
The main job I had was being a counselor for campers, which involved taking full care of individuals, sometimes two or three individuals at a time for the entire week. This position taught me how to physically care for someone, how to handle seizures, how to avoid crisis situations, how to deescalate situations, and how to handle anything that may be unexpected. I can now take care of individuals that are wheelchair bound, autistic, bipolar, or someone who is any place on the spectrum. I also re-certified my CPR card and I can now shower, bathe, and officially assist those who need added assistance to live their everyday life. I am more familiar with dietary needs, how to be persuasive, and am now a better caretaker, salesman, marketer, and a better person overall.
